BIRKETT TUNNEL SOUTH - 23rd March 2002 43104 on the diverted 09.10 Edinburgh - Penzance. The train has just emerged from the 424 yards long Birkett Tunnel just two miles to the south of Kirkby Stephen and will now traverse Mallerstang Common. Garsdale to Kirkby Stephen is the longest stretch of the line without a station. |
